JP Morgan AI Research PhD Fellowship

J.P. Morgan has a long history of recruiting and developing quantitative professionals and is a leader in applying AI and Data Science tools to support its clients and businesses. The goal of J.P. Morgan AI Research is to advance cutting-edge AI research in areas of relevance to our industry. The team is headquartered in New York and present in key hubs around the world.

The J.P. Morgan PhD Fellowship program is intended to support novel and impactful thesis work of PhD students and enables opportunities for PhD students to engage with research professionals at J.P. Morgan. A JP Morgan PhD Fellowship includes a yearly award that supports tuition, a stipend and travel to J.P. Morgan offices. Student awardees are expected to visit J.P. Morgan in Q1 2020, and will receive a connection in the J.P. Morgan AI Research team. Awardees may also be invited to complete a summer internship at J.P. Morgan.

Students must be in the third or fourth year of an eligible PhD program in the fall semester of 2019.

Current general areas of interest to this call for the 2020 JP Morgan PhD Fellowships include AI, machine learning, data privacy and cryptography, and ethics in computing.

Application evaluation: Applications will be evaluated based on the overall excellence of their thesis work and its potential relevance to JP Morgan’s objectives.

 Submission Details (by 11/10/19 at 11:59P)

Required Materials:

  1. CV/resume - include education, publications, awards, and service
  2. Month and year you entered your PhD program and expected graduation date
  3. Up to 2-page summary of the ongoing and remaining PhD thesis work, including its potential impact on financial services. This section should include also a short paragraph indicating the student’s potential interest and motivation in doing a summer internship at J.P. Morgan and preferred areas of research focus for the internship
  4. Proposed Fellowship budget, following the “PhD Fellowship budget.xlsx” template. Save this as a PDF file.
  5. Up to 2 reference letters, one must be from the student’s PhD advisor

Materials should be submitted by 11:59PM on 11/10/19 to Samantha Hendon (2237 SC).

A maximum of two candidates per department may be nominated.

Note: Electronic documents should be submitted as ONE PDF. Letters of recommendation should be sent from the letter writer directly to Samantha.  Students, your file name (includes items 1-4 listed above) should be submitted as "19-20. JP Morgan PhD - Last Name, First Name". I recommend that students submit their CVs and statement(s) to their letter writers at least a week prior to the deadline.
