ECE Curriculum Committee Meeting Minutes for Feb 23, 2015

Present: Michael  Bailey,  Can Bayram, Weng Cho Chew, Peter Dragic, John Dallesasse, Alejandro Dominguez-Garcia, Kiruba Haran, Erhan Kudeki, Sayan Mitra, Chris Schmitz, Venu Veeravalli (chair), Hao Zhu.

1. The meeting was called to order at 3 pm.
2. The minutes of the Feb 9, 2015 meeting were approved.
3. There was a discussion of the new course proposal from Bruce Hajek for ECE 314 Probability in Engineering Lab. There some discussion as to whether some of the topics in the course were too advanced for undergraduate students. Peter Dragic suggested that the students should be required to be present every week in the computer lab (and not just on odd numbered weeks), unless they have completed and submitted the assignment before the lab time in the even numbered weeks. The committee voted unanimously in favor of approving the course, with the amendment proposed by Dragic.
4. Weng Chew reported on the discussions in the College committee on computing requirements. There were some discussion about whether CS101 should be taught using Python so as to be more useful to ECE students who may want to take it.
5. Sayan Mitra reported on the discussions among the CE faculty regarding the re-organization of the CE areas. 
6. The meeting was adjourned at 3:50 PM.
