For the first half of the meeting there was a discussion on ECE 498 "Deep Learning in Hardware" submitted by Naresh Shanbhag for third third time teaching and for permanent course number.  The course in its third iteration has been modified to be a single offering for undergraduate and graduate students.  In prior semesters, the graduate portion was taught under a separate ECE 598 section meeting together with the undergraduate ECE 498 section.  Besides this organizational change, the course is very similar to the previous offerings, with some updates suggested by the teaching experience with the prior offerings.  The committee felt that we can go ahead with placing the ECE 498  course on the schedule for Fall 2022 while the proposal for permanent course is being completed.  There was a request to meet with Naresh at the next meeting to review a more complete syllabus suitable for the permanent course proposal.

The request to change the prerequisites for ECE 479 "IoT and Cognitive Computing" submitted by Deming Chen was discussed.  After reviewing the available material, it was not completely clear whether the course syllabus had been modified in a significant way to require a full submission for course revision.  Deming was contacted by the chair after the meeting.  It appears that ECE 385 was left by mistake as prerequisite at the time the proposal material was submitted to the ECE department.  The syllabus may appear different because the order of topics was slightly rearranged without changing the course content as approved by the Curriculum Committee.  Removal of FPGA material was already contemplated by the original permanent course proposal.  Because of this, a cross-check is planned to verify that content has not changed, for due diligence, in which case the prerequisite change can be carried out administratively.
