Microsoft will award one-year scholarships to outstanding female graduate students. Scholarships will be granted at Microsoft's discretion. The scholarship recipient award includes $15,000 for the 2015-2015 academic year and a $2,000 conference travel allowance.
International students (non-U.S. citizens) are eligible. Students must be enrolled in their first year in a graduate program in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or Bioinformatics/Information Science for academic year 2014–2015. Students who have already completed a two-year MS/MA degree or equivalent are also eligible, provided they are enrolled in the first year of a PhD program.
A maximum of three candidates per department may be nominated.
Please ensure that the following materials are submitted by 5pm on 9/29/2014 to Colin Robertson (colinr@illinois.edu, 2233 SC):
1) Your CV/resume.
2) A copy of your undergraduate transcript.
3) An essay describing your research interest and how this scholarship would enable your success (maximum length of 500 words).
4) Two (2) letters of reference from established researchers familiar with the your research:
a) One letter of recommendation from your graduate adviser.
b) One letter of recommendation from your undergraduate adviser or another academic familiar with your undergraduate work (should include any research work, if applicable).
Note: Electronic documents are preferred and should be submitted as PDFs, Word documents, or plain-text files. Letters of recommendation should be sent from the letter writer directly to colinr@illinois.edu. Students, please include your netid in your file names. I recommend that students submit their CVs and statement(s) to their letter writers at least a week prior to the deadline.
Note: Materials should be submitted to Colin Robertson, not Microsoft. However, if chosen as one of the department's nominees, be aware: "Applications submitted to Microsoft will not be returned. Microsoft cannot assume responsibility for the confidentiality of information in submitted applications. Therefore, applications should not contain information that is confidential, restricted, or sensitive.
