Discuss/vote on:

  • ECE 498RS: Networking for Big Data [Proposal Form and Syllabus]
  • How do MATLAB and C play into the course (and is it really an "and" - both are required - as stated in the prerequisite).  How will MATLAB and C interface with the MapReduce/Hadoop topics specified in the syllabus?
    • Srikant's response: Matlab and C are for simulations of algorithms for load balancing, etc. This is different from MapReduce (or Spark) which will be used to illustrate some simple parallel programs.
  • Does Srikant have an opinion on having ECE 220 as a prerequisite?  Does he expect students at the Junior level to be able to succeed in this course?
    • Srikant's response: I am not against adding 220 as a pre-req. Some knowledge of programming will be useful, and so 220 may be appropriate. If students have taken 313 and 220, I do  think they can succeed, even as juniors.
