Attendees: Dallesasse, Dominguez-Garcia, Hajek, Kudeki, Kumar, Levinson,Makela, Mitra, Oelze, Sanders, Schmitz, Smaragdis, Wasserman
1. The minutes of the meeting of December 10 were approved.
2. The proposals for ECE 498MH for Fall 2014, and the permanent version, ECE 401, prepared by Mark Hasegawa-Johnson, were approved.
3. The revision of ECE 110 prepared by Chris Schmitz was approved.
4. The revision of ECE 385 prepared by Deming Chen was approved. (A course revision form, rather than the submitted new course form, will be used.)
5. Information item from Erhan/Bruce: the prerequisite for ECE 313 was changed from ECE 210 to ECE 286 or Math 415. This is a minor change because ECE 286 is a co-requisite for ECE 210.
6. The committee discussed the implementation of a requirement for EE students to have the basic computing skills listed in CS 101, listed on the curriculum webpage of the department. (This is implementation of a policy recommended in previous years by the curriculum committee.) There seemed to be consensus about the requirement itself, and the description of the requirement, but not about the name of the requirement. Some felt that "scientific computing" has a more advance meaning than the material intended. Some felt that "commuter literacy" is too narrow, meaning an ability to use spreadsheets, word documents, and web interfaces. The CC will return to this topic.
7. The meeting was adjourned at 3:50 p.m.
These minutes drafted by B. Hajek, January 21, 2014.
