Meeting November 28, 2022
Agenda:
Courses proposed for addition to the non-ECE Technical Electives list:
- IE 421 "High Frequency Trading Tech" - We considered this course earlier in the semester. The committe had positive comments on this course, but members wished to have a better idea on what assignments or projects are about. The instructor of the course was able to collect the videos of the final group presentations and post them on Box at: https://uofi.box.com/s/3cat9qcavjmyattqytiaxy49lfjp0ift
- GGIS 407 / GEOG 407 "Foundations of CyberGIS & Geospatial Data Science" - Intended to introduce students to CyberGIS – Geospatial Information Science and Systems (GIS) based on advanced cyberinfrastructure as well as the state of the art in high-performance computing, big data, and cloud computing in the context of geospatial data science. Students will use CyberGISX, which is an innovative cyberGIS framework for conducting data-intensive, reproducible, and scalable geospatial analytics with Jupyter Notebook as its primary user environment. Students are expected to learn how to develop Jupyter notebooks to analyze and visualize geospatial data using leading-edge cyberGIS software and python libraries. Emphasis is placed on learning the cutting-edge advances of cyberGIS and its underlying geospatial data science principles. Same as GEOL 407. 4 undergraduate hours. 4 graduate hours.
This course is also part of various completely online graduate/certificate programs of the Department of Geography & Geographic Information Science https://ggis.illinois.edu. In GGIS 407 students also get introduced to Hadoop.
Continued Discussion on the upcoming ABET review
We are now at the midpoint of the present ABET review cycle and it is time to start the various processes needed to be ready for the next review in Fall 2025. The Curriculum Committee is tasked with several steps for possible update of stated objectives and review of data collected by the department.
ECE Faculty Members should visit https://wiki.illinois.edu/wiki/display/ECEABET to complete tasks related to a "mid-cycle initiative" to get prepared for the Fall 2025 ABET visit.
