The committee has been asked to re-word these proposals, before they are voted on by the department. Here is a proposed amended text of the motion to set before the department.
Proposal to the College of Engineering for a Change to the Electrical Engineering Curriculum: The Electrical Engineering degree will replace MATH 286 by the sequence of (MATH 257 or MATH 416) and MATH 285. With this change the number of required basic math and science hours is increased by 2 which will be deducted from the number of technical electives hours, to decrease them from 32 to 30.
Proposal to the College of Engineering for a Change to the Computer Engineering Curriculum: The Computer Engineering degree will replace MATH 286 by the sequence of (MATH 257 or MATH 416) and MATH 285, and remove CHEM 102/103 as a required course. With this change the number of required basic math and science hours is reduced by 2 which will be added to the number of technical electives hours to increase them from 27 to 29.
Proposed addition to the ECE list of Technical Electives: CHEM 102/103 General Chemistry (for Computer Engineering students), ATMS 201 General Physical Meteorology, CPSP 265 Genetic Engineering Lab, PSYC 204 Intro to Brain and Cognition.
Proposed change to the wording of the 2.25 rule: After the sentence "Students with 2.25 or higher JGPA are allowed to start taking 300 level ECE classes and Technical Electives in the same semester they are completing the full set of technical core courses required for Junior Eligibility." we will add the sentence "Many students will find it useful to complete one of the 200-level Junior Eligibility Courses in their fifth semester."
