  3. Vaidya attended the meeting to discuss CS 374. Erickson described the content of the course in detail and explained the relationship to CS 373 and CS 473.  There were some questions from the committee regarding whether Computer Engineering students need such an extensive coverage of topics such as Turing machines, NP completeness, and undecidability. Erickson explained that there was some flexibility in the topics, and that in the initial semesters after cross-listing with ECE, one CS and one ECE instructor would co-teach the course to ensure that the topics covered were relevant to both CS and ECE studentsThere was some more discussion on the cross listing of CS 374 in ECE, particularly regarding the extra hour that would get added to the CompE curriculum. Kudeki asked if we should consider having our own algorithms course. At the end of the discussion, the committee voted to approve the cross-listing  of CS 374 in ECE.
