Minutes of the 2010-11 ECE Curriculum Committee (CC)

Minutes of the meetings on December 7, 2010, January 18, 2011 and February 8, 2011 were approved.
The curriculum committee discussed proposal for a new course, ECE 341 Introduction to Photonics, proposed by Kent Choquette. The course proposal has already been approved by the nanotechnology area. The committee decided to request input on the course proposal from the Microelectronics and Photonics area as well.
Yih-chun Hu is heading an ad hoc sub-committee that is reviewing ECE 190 with the goal of developing suggestions on how the course may be improved. He provided an update on the discussions in the ad hoc committee. The ad hoc committee is expected to complete its work by early March. Yih-Chun Hu also discussed the experience with the new test format for ECE 190 being used this semester. In particular, students are asked to answer programming questions by developing code on a computer in the EWS labs, providing them an opportunity to debug their code before submitting the solution.
