The committee discussed the charge letter received from the Department Head, with action items for the 2023/2024 academic year.  Several members of the committee noted the immediate need to update and harmonize the Education and the Research web pages.   There are some obvious omissions which should be immediately rectified; for instance, Olga Mironenko is not even listed in a list of faculty in the Power area web page.  The same is true for some other faculty hired inrecent years.  An important urgent update is also to add Quantum Systems in the Electrical Engineering specialization areas. There was a robust discussion about the needs of the evolving area of Computer Engineering, with respect to emerging new trends in chip designs (e.g., Tensor Processing Units) as suggested by Ravi Iyer.  The Comp E curriculum workflow could also be revise with an anticipation of ECE 411 (at least for a certain group of students) to make access to more advanced chip design courses more accessible.  Also, we should reconsider how "Data Science" as a terminology is emphasized in the web material as opposed to "Big Data", as suggested by Erhan Kudeki.  Some additional discussion on the way we structure and present the curriculum for the Biomedical imaging, bioengineering, and acoustics (BIBA) area, where more coordination could take place with the overlapping interests of the Bioengineering department.  Action item for the near future is to engage the different curriculum/research areas in the department by appointing related members of the curriculum committee to hold discussions within the sub-disciplines concerning the various points in the charge letter and formulate a set of recommendations for the committee to examine during the remainder of the academic year.            Erhan Kudeki also reminded the committee of th eupcoming external review in February 2024.  It is important to make progress and revise the web pages before the review.
