This year's Grace Hopper Celebration is Sep. 26–28 in Houston, TX.

Department Grant + RegistrationThree (3) available
  • Registration covered in addition to $550 in travel grants to cover hotel, registration, food, and/or transportation costs.  
  • Funding will be disbursed in the form of a reimbursement after the conference.  Recipients will need to make many purchases before the conference, save receipts, and complete reimbursement paperwork after the conference.
  • Recipients must:
    • Be female CS students who will be MS or PhD students in Fall 2018
    • Help represent and promote the department at the conference, spending at least an hour per day at the department's booth.
Department RegistrationsFive (5) available
  • Free conference registrations.  (Student registration is regularly $450 this year.)
  • Recipients must:
    • Be female CS students who will be juniors, seniors, MS, or PhD students in Fall 2018.
    • Help represent and promote the department at the conference, spending at least two hours during the conference at the department's booth.

About the Conference:

Co-founded by Dr. Anita Borg and Dr. Telle Whitney in 1994 and inspired by the legacy of Admiral Grace Murray Hopper, the Institute's Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing Conference is designed to bring the research and career interests of women in computing to the forefront. It is the largest technical conference for women in computing and results in collaborative proposals, networking and mentoring for junior women and increased visibility for the contributions of women in computing. Conference presenters are leaders in their respective fields, representing industry, academia and government. Top researchers present their work while special sessions focus on the role of women in today's technology fields.

July 11 - Conference registration opens.
September 26 - Conference start date.

If interested, please ensure that the following materials are submitted by 11:59 PM on April 30 to Samantha Hendon (shendon@illinois.edu, 2237 SC):
1) Your up-to-date CV/resume.
2) A one page statement discussing why you want to attend the conference, and how attending will benefit your education, research, and/or career.
3) If you are presenting at or assisting with the conference, please provide a half page to one page statement summarizing your participation.
4) A short statement indicating whether or not you would be willing to assist in promoting CS @ ILLINOIS at the conference. This would include assisting department staff at the department's career fair table for periods of time.
