ACM SIGHPC/Intel Computational & Data Science Fellowships (Spring 2019)

To be considered for an ACM SIGHPC / Intel Computational & Data Science Fellowship, a nomination must meet the following requirements:

• The candidate must be:
• Currently enrolled in a graduate program or accepted to begin in one no later than October 15 of this year
• Pursuing a graduate degree – Master’s, PhD, or equivalent – in computational or data science (although the formal name of the program may be somewhat different; see main webpage for examples)
• Less than halfway through her/his planned program of study (with preference given to students who are still early in their studies)
• A woman and/or a member of a racial/ethnic group that is currently underrepresented in the computing field in the country where the student will earn the degree
• The nominator must be the candidate’s current graduate advisor (or if the student is not yet enrolled, must have agreed to take on advising responsibility when the student arrives)
• The nominator must coordinate with the head of the academic department to ensure only one current/future student from that department is being nominated
• The candidate must provide up-to-date contact information for an endorser who is a current or former instructor, project supervisor, or employer who has personal knowledge of the student’s past accomplishments
• The nominator, candidate, and endorser must each submit their required materials (in sequence) using SIGHPC’s online nomination system, prior to the deadline

1. Student's CV.
2. Student's statement. In 500 characters or less, discuss your "primary reason for pursuing a graduate degree in data science and/or computational science and what do you hope to accomplish."
3. Student's Biographical Sketch. In 150 words or less, provide a brief biography that can be included in the award announcement if you are named a Fellowship winner.
   
4. Nomination submitted by the student's adviser explaining how the student qualifies for a fellowship.  There are three components:
   1. One page nomination statement in support of the candidate
   2. Explain why the program qualifies as “computational or data science,” as described by http://www.sighpc.org/fellowships (limit 300 characters).
   3. If the candidate is from an underrepresented group, describe what that group is (limit 200 characters).
5. Endorsement. Submitted by a current or former instructor, project supervisor, or employer who has personal knowledge of the student’s past accomplishments and can speak to the candidate’s suitability. This should be a "brief statement (limited to 1000 characters) indicating what he/she has personally observed in terms of the candidate’s abilities, self-motivation, and achievements."
   

In order to be considered as the single nominee, materials should be submitted by 11:59 pm on 3/25/2019 to Colin Robertson (2233 SC).
