Important Advising Information for ISE Undergraduate Students |
|---|
Concurrent Enrollment and Drop Requests: If a course requires credit or concurrent enrollment - for example, IE 310 requires credit or concurrent enrollment in MATH 257 or MATH 415 - you cannot then request to drop the MATH course and remain in IE 310. |
Advising Holds: Once you have completed your mandatory advising appointment, the department will remove your advising hold. However, you may still have other holds on your student account placed by different offices on campus. These holds can include, but are not limited to, immunization holds, Title IX holds, bursar/financial holds, and college holds. If your hold is for any reason other than the departmental advising hold, you will need to contact the office that placed the hold to have it removed or complete the necessary steps required for its removal. |
Systems Engineering and Design Undergraduates It is imperative that you complete the TAM 211, TAM 212, and TAM 251 series by the start of your third (junior) year in the curriculum. This TAM series serves as prerequisite coursework for SE 310 and SE 320 (note that SE 320 also requires credit or concurrent enrollment in ECE 211). As shown on the curriculum map, SE 310 and SE 320 are only guaranteed to be offered during fall semesters. These courses are prerequisites for several spring-only courses, including SE 311/SE 312, SE 420, and three of the four design elective courses. Failing to complete courses in the proper sequence will likely delay your graduation by at least one semester. |
Reasons to request a prerequisite override request:

Scenarios where you should not submit a prerequisite override request:

For IE and SED students, only 1 course is allowed below the 300-level in their Track Option or Secondary Field Option petition. |

Daily Advising Appointments (not mandatory advising):
Professor Beck is on sabbatical for the Fall 2025 semester. Professor Richard Sowers (r-sowers@illinois.edu) will be acting as Acting Associate Head for Undergraduate Programs during Professor Beck’s time away. Please send a detailed email to ise-advisor@illinois.edu with questions you have.
The ISE Undergraduate Programs Office will prioritize meetings with current students, especially during the mandatory advising or summer registration periods.
New students who have yet to be assigned an academic advisor for the Fall 2025 semester will have priority for appointments, if an appointment is necessary.
Students on academic warning status also have priority for appointments during this time.
Other student appointments:
Students wishing to transfer to IE or SED will not have first priority for meetings at the start of the semester.
Students wishing to discuss a four-year plan may have to wait until later in the semester for an appointment. We encourage you to discuss your four-year plans with your assigned academic advisor.
We may have appointments available on our ISE UG Programs Office calendars; you may check here:
