About the Conference:
Co-founded by Dr. Anita Borg and Dr. Telle Whitney in 1994 and inspired by the legacy of Admiral Grace Murray Hopper, the Institute's Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing Conference is designed to bring the research and career interests of women in computing to the forefront. It is the largest technical conference for women in computing and results in collaborative proposals, networking and mentoring for junior women and increased visibility for the contributions of women in computing. Conference presenters are leaders in their respective fields, representing industry, academia and government. Top researchers present their work while special sessions focus on the role of women in today's technology fields.
Key Conference Dates: (See the official calendar at http://gracehopper.org/calendar/)
April 16 - GHC Scholarship Grant application deadline: http://anitaborg.org/awards-grants/ghc-scholarship-grants/ Recipients notified on June 30.
June 2 - Conference registration opens.
Notes:
1) Because hotel rooms tend to fill up quickly, the department has reserved a hotel room in the conference hotel for scholarship recipients. However, recipients are responsible for their hotel costs. (That is, hotel costs count towards the $1000 limit.) Students are responsible for their own hotel accommodations.
2) Scholarships will be disbursed in the form of a reimbursement after the conference. Recipients will need to make many purchases before the conference, save receipts, and complete reimbursement paperwork after the conference, in order to be covered by the scholarship and receive the scholarship funding after the conference.
If interested, please ensure that the following materials are submitted by 5 pm on May 5 to Colin Robertson (colinr@illinois.edu, 2233 SC):
1) Your up-to-date CV/resume.
2) A one page statement discussing why you want to attend the conference, and how attending will benefit your education, research, and/or career.
3) If you are presenting at or assisting with the conference, please provide a half page to one page statement summarizing your participation.
